There’s something about autumn that just feels magical. The golden light, the crunch of leaves under your boots, and that crisp smell of fall, even if it only lasts a couple weeks before the rain rolls in here on the Island. Life has been insanely busy since I began working full time, and with my oldest being accepted to University next fall, my mom heart HAD to get one more year with all my kiddo's together. Not going to lie super bittersweet!

My son was born November 1st, so when October rolled around, the pumpkin patch become a family tradition. Even if my “little pumpkins” are now full-blown teenagers with opinions, phones, and a healthy dose of sarcasm, it's the tradiotions that keep me going if I'm being honest.
Last weekend, we made our annual pilgrimage to Silver Meadows Farm in Errington. I’ll admit, convincing the oldest to come along took some strategic negotiating, but once we arrived, something softened. The magic of fall got them, as it always does.

We wandered through rows of pumpkins, each of us declaring what made the “perfect one.” My daughters all went for aesthetic, round, smooth, with that “Pinterest” look. My son wanted the ugliest one he could find. Boys. And me? I just love watching them. These tall, almost-adults crouched down in the dirt, laughing like they’re five again, comparing pumpkins like they’re picking out new cars.

Then came the corn maze.
There’s a special kind of chaos that comes with a family corn maze adventure. Within minutes, my teens were in full competition mode, racing ahead, taking wrong turns, laughing when I ended up stepping in mud.
But somewhere between the jokes, the selfies, and the endless “Are we lost?” moments, I realized something: these are the memories that matter. Not the perfect photos or the pristine pumpkins, but the time. Unplugged, outside, together. The small moments when everyone forgets to be too cool.

I was happily surprised to find they had the cutest market with fresh local produce, food trucks and a warm, welcoming environment that makes you want to visit more than once!

So if your teens roll their eyes at “family fall fun,” take them anyway. Go to the pumpkin patch. Get lost in the corn maze. Let them tease you, let them lead the way, let the season work its quiet magic. Because no matter how old they get, those little moments of joy - those golden, pumpkin-scented memories, will always be worth it.
